Back in 2015, after leaving a tumultuous marriage, I found myself a newly single mother with very limited resources.
As with most women, I tried securing new jobs in my field. But the search for quality work evaded me. Add to it, I had recently won a major case, which unfortunately left me in financial straits due to legal fees. As such, finding work proved much more stressful to me.
After struggling with the traditional workforce, I decided to broaden my horizons. I soon discovered a new world of economic opportunities available to me, which came by way of the virtual market.
Around that same time, I learned about online writing, blogging, content marketing, and more. Within a few weeks of submitting my resume and work samples to a start up educational company, I secured a freelance curriculum design contract, which paid me nearly the same amount of money I earned in the traditional workforce.
At that point, I realized the power of the virtual market.
And by setting up an online business (a website and blog), I secured other virtual contracts that gave me the financial freedom to do what I needed, even as a single mother.

The Top 17 Online Careers Women Can Create in 2023 to Earn $50,000+ Annually or More
In the virtual work force, there are hundreds of career types for you to explore, even if you are new to online business or virtual careers.
For the sake of this lesson, however, I will focus on opportunities that align best with women creatives.
Career #1: Become a Self-Published Author
In the virtual economy, wisdom and knowledge are king. Your expertise in a given market will determine your pathway to success. But how you package that knowledge will be crucial. Self-publishing is now one of the most viable career options for women, because it positions you in the market as the go-to expert for a particular niche.
For example, in the conservative political space, “Felecia Killings” is the #1 brand name when it comes to effective Black Outreach. In 2018, I self-published my first conservative book, The Fifteen 20 Rise, which provided Republicans the top strategies for making inroads with Black voters. Career #5: Become a Tech Blogger

Visit Indeed.com, type in “curriculum writer” or “curriculum designer” in the keyword box, and explore remote positions based on your subject matter expertise.
For example, “QBS Learning is a leader in the education content development space focused on creating formal and informal educational products for children. The company works with clients to create ‘innovative’ products that help kids learn and teachers teach.”
The company searches for curriculum designers to help them provide the best-quality materials to their clients. And you can be that expert to deliver. Many other educational programs are also out there. And if you can’t secure a position within a company, consider designing your own curriculum and selling it to the market.
For example, the homeschool industry is vastly growing. Today, parents are searching for quality curriculum that will meet their scholars’ demands. Position yourself as their expert based on your core subject matter, and even offer tutoring services to them to boost your income. Ghostwriting is the art of constructing books or other content on behalf of an author. When I first began my online career, I wrote small books for rising entrepreneurs. The pay was small compared to what I charge today. But it was the first time I realized I could generate income simply from writing.
Effective communication is a skill set best learned through years of practice; and some people simply do not want to purchase the training to get their ideas to the market. As a result, they hire skilled ghostwriters or freelancers to create a product for them. And you can be one such writer.

Copywriting is the art and science of strategically delivering words (whether written or spoken) that get people to take some form of action.
